When you travel there are those inevitable intervals where you have to wait for your train, plane or whatever your onward mode of transport might be. Sometimes it can be annoying, but for me it’s the perfect opportunity to plot up and watch life go by. This summer I have travelled around Europe on trains a lot, so I've not been short of occasions to indulge in this activity.
I love living in a part of the world where, to get from one part of the country to another, I can pass through a mountain, into another country and over another mountain to get to my destination. That country is Switzerland and I travelled from Montreux in the French part to Locarno in the Italian-speaking canton Ticino as part of my On Track for Summer project.
It was with some trepidation that I boarded my night train in Zurich bound for Lljubljlana, Slovenia. Not only was I travelling on my own, I was in a mixed 4-berth couchette for the 12 hour duration.
